Broccoli sprouts recall check: build a source-dated product table

Check Evergreen broccoli sprout dates and related seed identifiers, then prepare a public recall table with source dates and clear matching rules.

Build a public checklist for the 2026 Evergreen Fresh Sprouts outbreak using separate fields for the producer, product, package size, UPC and date or lot code. Keep fresh sprouts and sprouting seeds in separate categories so readers do not confuse a use-by date with a seed-lot identifier. This is an outbreak-specific table, not a list of every broccoli sprout recall.

Checked October 28, 2026: FDA’s October 9 advisory says the recalled Evergreen Fresh Sprouts products are past expiration and no longer available for sale, but also lists recalled broccoli seeds from three brands. The investigation remains ongoing in that advisory. A public checklist covering this outbreak should therefore include seeds, not just the September sprout recall. FDA outbreak advisory

Check the Evergreen fresh-sprout identifiers

The September 10 company announcement covers Evergreen Fresh Sprouts LLC broccoli sprouts in clear plastic 4-oz zip-lock bags, with UPC 8 38796 00105 1 and these five use-by dates. Each row below represents one listed date—not a separate product or recall. Company announcement published by FDA

Producer Product Package UPC as printed Use By as printed
Evergreen Fresh Sprouts LLC Broccoli sprouts 4 oz 8 38796 00105 1 9/07/26
Evergreen Fresh Sprouts LLC Broccoli sprouts 4 oz 8 38796 00105 1 9/09/26
Evergreen Fresh Sprouts LLC Broccoli sprouts 4 oz 8 38796 00105 1 9/11/26
Evergreen Fresh Sprouts LLC Broccoli sprouts 4 oz 8 38796 00105 1 9/14/26
Evergreen Fresh Sprouts LLC Broccoli sprouts 4 oz 8 38796 00105 1 9/16/26

Compare the producer and product, then the UPC and use-by date together; a UPC alone does not distinguish the five listed dates from other production dates.

Do not use the bag description as the only exclusion rule: CDC’s September 24 notice also describes plastic bags or clamshell containers with those expiration dates. If packaging differs or the label is incomplete, consult the official notice rather than marking the item “not recalled.” CDC recalled-food details

The company announcement names potential retail distribution in Idaho, Montana and Washington; CDC cautions that distribution may have reached additional states. Store location is supporting context, not a substitute for checking product identifiers. CDC distribution information

Include the related seed checks

FDA’s October 9 product list identifies the following recalled seeds. Preserve the label wording: “Packed for 2027” is not an expiration date, and the Eden Brothers supplier lot belongs in a different field from its brand lots. FDA seed identifiers

Brand and product Listed size Identifiers to check
Gardeners Basics Waltham 29 Broccoli Sprouting Seeds 1 lb (454 g) UPC 848137042889; white-and-green resealable pouch marked “Packed for 2027”
Eden Brothers calabrese broccoli seeds Packets, 1 oz and 1 lb Eden Brothers lots 1022067 and 1022068; supplier lot W4105
Home Grown green sprouting calabrese broccoli seeds 8 oz Lot AUG172026 embossed on the top seal

FDA advises consumers, restaurants and retailers not to use recalled seed lots, and to clean and sanitize surfaces or containers touched by recalled sprouts or seeds. For the fresh sprouts, the company urges immediate disposal; CDC says to throw them away or return them. FDA recommendations · CDC consumer advice

Prepare the table for public sharing

Use the tables above as a starting structure, then add provenance—the information that lets readers trace a row back to its source.

  • Define each row. For sprouts, use one row per listed use-by date. For seeds, expand explicitly listed sizes and brand lots as needed, without inventing combinations the notice does not establish.
  • Preserve identifiers as text. Keep upc_label exactly as printed; optionally add a digits-only upc_normalized field for searching. Keep original date text alongside an ISO date such as 2026-09-07 for sorting.
  • Separate different codes. Use distinct columns for brand_lot, supplier_lot, use_by and packed_for. A missing identifier means “not provided in this source,” not “unrestricted.”
  • Add source and review fields. Include source_url, source_update_date and checked_at. The October 28 review date should not replace FDA’s October 9 update date.
  • Keep outbreak totals elsewhere. CDC’s September 24 figures—32 cases, three hospitalizations and no deaths—are a dated outbreak snapshot, not product-level counts. Do not repeat and sum them across recall rows. CDC fast facts

Before publishing, follow a CSV export check: reopen the exported file and verify row counts, UPC text, dates and lot codes. Publish only public recall information, never customer purchase records or individual health details.

On the public page, state the scope and checked date beside the table. Label filter results as “listed match” or “no listed match in this dataset”, not “safe.” Treat incomplete labels as needing review, not as a negative match. Keep the official advisory link visible so readers can check later additions before acting.
